Because of the german Tax structure were you pay per hp, the M52 engine's were constructed with an smaller inlet manifold. This smaller inlet manifold lets you have the torque of the large engine but reduces peak hp.
Between 1995 and 2000 this smaller manifold is used on the 2.0 from the 520i and 320i, 2.5 from the 323i and 523i, and on the 2.8 328i 528i and 728i.
By placing an larger bore manifold the air resistance is reduced therefore releasing more power.

The manifold is an M50 manifold altered to fit these M52 single vanos engines to bring this effect there. With these alterations al sensor fittings and bolt positions are on the same place as with the standard inlet manifold, making it easy to replace.
These manifolds were created from used M50 manifolds, due to the high popularity of these manifolds we are unable to get enough to supply al customers. We only offer a rebuild of an M50 2.5L manifold to fit on an M52 single vanos engine when the customer supplies the manifold to us.
