Een blow off valve (ook wel dumpvalve genoemd) wordt gebruikt in diverse turbo en supercharger systemen om daarbij de druklading die niet gebruikt wordt(zoals bij overschakelen) uit het systeem te laten lopen. Hierbij ontstaat het overbekende "psshhhht" afblaasgeluid.
